CABLE THEFT IS A CRIME THAT OUR RESIDENTS HAVE TO PAY FOR

Residents of Ashton and Zolani has been harshly affected by copper cable theft this past week.

Electricity is still down in most parts of Ashton with electricians working tirelessly to repair the power supply. The damages caused from the cable theft are far more extensive than originally anticipated. This left our residents without electricity and water for days.

The Water Treatment Works in Ashton is operational and water supply to most of the areas have been restored.  There is however still a problem with water supply to Conradie Dorp and parts of North West area due to the pump station being unable to fill the reservoir as a result of the power outage in this area. We are currently working on the problem to restore the power and water supply to the affected areas.

It is therefore still unknown when the water supply will be fully restored

We remind residents to switch off geysers until the water supply is back to normal.

A water tanker is currently roaming in the affected area to provide water to residents.

Cable theft continues to affect business operations and hamper the provision of basic essential services to industry and our communities.

Eskom urges all scrap metal dealers, foundries and smelters to refrain from buying stolen cables.

Two suspects were arrested last night at Bruwer Street, Ashton for cutting cables, and stolen cables have been retrieved.

We urge our residents to please report any suspicious activity as we rely on tip offs from the public to help curb cable theft. We All have the responsibility to report any acts of cable theft or vandalism.
