DCAS WESTERN CAPE CALLS FOR APPLICATIONS FOR ANNUAL FUNDING OF PROJECTS FOR 2024/25
The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) invites registered arts and culture organisations and institutions, artist groups, individuals involved in artistic expressions and arts and culture events companies to submit their online applications for project funding for the 2024/25 financial year. All applicants must be South African citizens based in the Western Cape.
Outcomes need to be clearly articulated as this will weigh heavily on whether a project is to be supported or not.
Applications are invited for funding for projects/programmes within the following funding categories:
FUNDING CATEGORY | PROJECT/PROGRAMME | FUNDING OUTCOME |
Gender Responsiveness | Arts and Culture programmes/activities that are structured to empower women and address aspects of GBV. |
• Gender responsiveness is a state of recognition and reaction to gender inequality in implementing activities and programmes.

Cultural Tourism | Festivals including film and literary festivals, touring productions, and exhibitions. |
• Job creation through the arts.
|
Books and Press | Poetry writing, writer’s grants, creative writing, autobiographies, children’s literature, folklore, short stories, book fairs, literary magazines, publishing subsidies for publishing houses. |
• Develop and encourage new writers.
|
Audio-Visual | Film and video, television and radio, sound recordings, cartoons. |
• Innovation.
|
Design and Creative Services | Graphics – animation and multimedia design, fashion design. |
• Original works unique to the Western Cape.
|
New Works | Any discipline or medium reflective of cultural and indigenous arts. |
• Increased awareness and knowledge.
|
Multidisciplinary | An artistic activity which includes two or more artforms or disciplines. |
• Innovation.
|
Performance and Celebration | Choreographic works, technical training, scriptwriting, circus, dance, performances, comedy, magic, mime, puppetry, poetry, drama plays, storytelling, musical theatre, music tuition/compositions/conferences/arrangements etc. |
• Exposure and talent identification.
|
Visual Arts and Crafts | Painting, drawing, ceramics, craft, photography, and sculptures. |
• Job creation through the arts.

Application Process
All applications and supporting documentation must be submitted online. The application forms can be accessed online only at https://www.westerncape.gov.za/ca

It is the applicant’s responsibility to timeously apply and familiarise themselves with the funding application timelines and process which is available on the departmental website.
Applications will close on Friday, 8 March 2024 at 16:00. The online system will not allow for late applications.

• Funding is limited. Timeous submission of a completed online application does not guarantee funding.
• No faxed, hand delivered, or emailed applications will be accepted.
• Only one application is allowed per organisation/individual/company.
