LEVEL 1 WATER RESTRICTIONS IN ROBERTSON
Dear Robertson Residents,
The very low levels of storage dams in Robertson, as a result of the low rainfall, excessive high daily temperatures and increased water consumption over the summer months, necessitate the urgent implementation of water restrictions in Robertson by Langeberg Municipality. We request all residents within the other towns of Langeberg, to also please use water sparingly as it is a scarce and valuable resource.
Starting 1 February 2025, Level 1 water restrictions will be implemented in Robertson, as per the Langeberg Municipal Drought Management Policy, to ensure a sustainable water supply. Here’s what you need to know:
Key Restrictions:
- Suspension of Leiwater: Irrigation water (leiwater) supply will be suspended from Monday 3 Feb 2025. Consumers will be notified when irrigation water is reinstated.
- Garden Watering: Allowed only for two hours per day (18:00 - 20:00), two days per week.
- Excessive Use Penalty: A rate increase of 50% will be charged on consumption exceeding 30 kiloliters per household per month at residential properties. While a 10% tariff increase will be charged for non-residential consumers. (A penalty fine in terms of Section 75 A of the Systems Act). This excludes indigent households.
- Sports Fields: Only cricket pitches, golf course greens, and bowling greens can be watered for two hours per day, twice per week, unless using their own water source.
- No Hosing: No hosing of roofs, driveways, or washing vehicles with a garden hose.
- Car Wash Businesses: Restrictions do not apply to full-time commercial car wash businesses.
- Monitoring: Law Enforcement will monitor compliance and address violations. If a consumer is to be found guilty of contravening or failing to comply with any provisions of this Water By-Law or compliance notices served by an authorised official, he or she may be liable on conviction to a fine as published in the annual tariffs list as R 3 709.17 in the 2024-2025 Financial Year or three years imprisonment; or both.
- Leakage Repairs: Maintenance teams will be made available to address leakages in indigent households.
- Reporting Violations: Report any water misuse and leakages to the 24/7 call centre: Call 0860 88 1111, WhatsApp 065 211 7822, or E-mail
