PROGRESS OF THE ROBERTSON WASTE-WATER TREATMENT WORKS UPGRADE
The upgrade of the waste-water treatment works in Robertson is advancing as planned, with significant progress made on this multiyear project scheduled for completion in the 2025/2026 financial year. This crucial initiative is designed to enhance the town's wastewater processing infrastructure, ensuring more efficient and effective treatment.
The construction of key components, including the inlet works, bioreactor, and clarifier, is proceeding on schedule. The bioreactor is close to completion and has successfully passed its water tightness test, while the construction of the chlorine contact channels is also making notable strides. Overall, the project is approximately 67% complete.
In terms of financial management, the project has achieved 100% expenditure of the annual MIG (Municipal Infrastructure Grant) allocation, reflecting effective and prudent use of funds.
The contract, identified as T41/2023, has been awarded to Hiload Inyanga Construction Company (Pty) Ltd. The contractor has demonstrated strong performance, contributing significantly to the project’s timely progress.
Valued at R100,124,052.65 (including VAT), the upgrade project represents a significant investment in Robertson’s future. With its completion scheduled for the 2025/2026 financial year, the upgraded facility is expected to greatly improve wastewater management in the town, contributing to better environmental quality and public health.
