UPDATE: WATER QUALITY REPORT IN MONTAGU
In the past few weeks the Municipality received complaints of water quality in Montagu. Raw water that is treated is held in the storage dams and contains water of various quality depending on the depth within the dam. It has been identified that the water at the lower level of the dam create a problem in terms of taste and odour. Since becoming aware of the problem the municipality has switched between water sources to get a better water quality to the consumers.
Additional treatment measures has also been introduced at the water treatment plant. The water quality has improved significantly. The Municipality is also currently in process to implement additional measured to improve water quality even further. Water quality testing is done on a continuous basis and during this time the water still complied in terms of SANS 241 standards.
Recently test results were sent via social media from a private individual. It is important to note that sampling micro samples can have a huge effect on the sample results, taps should be disinfected by flaming it or using alcohol swipes. Samples should be transported on ice and reach the lab within 6 hours of sampling.
Samples should be taken in sterile containers by trained personnel. This is to only mention a few sampling requirements. It is unknown how the sample was taken and if the correct procedure was followed. The municipality cannot comment on the adequacy of the sample that have been provided. We do take water quality seriously and will be sampling various points in the network again on 28 November 2023 to establish compliance with SANS 241.
All water samples that were taken last week on 21 November 2023 that were tested by an Accredited Laboratory comply with SANS 241.
