The Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Standing Committee on Social Development invites stakeholders and interested parties to attend a public hearing on the Children’s Amendment Bill [B 18B–2022] being organised as part of the Standing Committee’s constitutional responsibility.
The purpose of the Amendment Bill is to amend the Children’s Act, 2005, so as to amend and insert certain definitions;
- to extend the children’s court jurisdiction;
- to further provide for the care of abandoned or orphaned children and additional matters that may be regulated;
- to provide for additional matters relating to children in alternative care;
- and to provide for matters connected therewith.
The public hearings are arranged as follows:

WORCESTER Thursday,13 October 2022 09:00–13:00 Worcester Indoor Centre, Van Huysteen Avenue
CALEDON Wednesday, 19 October 2022 09:00–13:00 Boland College, 37 Koalisie Street, Bergsig, Caledon
GEORGE Thursday, 20 October 2022 09:00–13:00 George Civic Centre, 74 York Street, George
Interested persons and organisations are encouraged to attend and participate in the public hearing and to submit written input on the Bill to the Standing Committee on Social Development for consideration. Please confirm attendance and indicate whether a verbal presentation will be made on the Bill on or before Friday, 7 October 2022.
Written submissions on the Bill must reach the Standing Committee on Social Development before or on Friday 21 October 2022.
