STATS SA SURVEYS IN THE LANGEBERG MUNICIPAL AREA
Statistics SA conducts continuous surveys in the Langeberg Municipal area throughout the year. We kindly request all residents to cooperate and participate in these surveys. Your feedback is essential for gathering reliable data for use in planning by various departments.
The collected data enables institutions such as government, business and other organisations to make informed decisions in terms of planning, monitoring and assessment of policies and programmes.
Who is Statistics SA?
Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) is a national government department mandated by government in terms of the Statistics Act (Act No 6 of 1999) to collect, process analyse and disseminate official statistics. The organisation collects data on the population, economy, unemployment, data of safety, tourism and price changes as measured by inflation on continuous basis.
What type of information does Stats SA collect?
Stats SA is responsible for producing economic and social statistics through data collected from households, businesses and administrative sources. These statistics relate to things like employment; poverty manufacturing and production; health and vital statistics as well as population statistics.
What surveys are being conducted?
The following surveys are being conducted yearly on a continuous basis:
• GHS (General Household Survey)
• DTS (Domestic Tourism Survey)
• GPSJS (Governance Public Safety & Justice Survey)
• QLFS (Quarterly Labour Force Survey)
How will the surveys be conducted?
Stats SA Survey Officers will utilize digital devices; such as tablets to conduct surveys. These devices are equipped with questionnaires which will be administered by the officers. The officers are thoroughly trained in using these devices to collect data from household members in the selected dwelling units. They will ask questions directly from the questionnaires loaded onto their digital devices.
Will my information be kept confidential?
Stats SA operates under the Statistics Act (Act No. 6 of 1999), which mandates that all information about individuals, households and businesses must be treated as strictly confidential. Section 17 of the Statistics Act guarantees the confidentiality of your information, while Section 18 outlines the penalties for any Stats SA official who unlawfully discloses official information. The data we collect is used exclusively for statistical purposes, and no individual-level data from your household can be accessed by unauthorized persons.
How do I identify the Stats SA Survey Officer?
All Stats SA officers will identify themselves by presenting a staff identity card issued by Stats SA. This will contain their photograph, name and ID/or employment number of the staff
How do I verify that the person is a Stats SA official?
Stats SA Survey Officers can be verified in terms of their employment status on the Stats SA website on www.statssa.gov.za and by clicking on the “Field Staff” link at the top of the landing page.
